Music

Mrs. Goodwin

Welcome to Elementary Music!

Students in grades K-5 attend music classes three days per week, for 30 minutes per session. Grades 3-5 are invited to join the Honor Choir, an elective choir that performs pop, country, folk, Broadway musical songs, and more! Students in grades 3-5 are also encouraged to sing in their class Mass choirs as music ministers. Grades 4 and 5 are invited to join the OLL Band program.

Music Goals

Student in grades K-5 experience music from several genres: jazz, rock, country, bluegrass, orchestral, Broadway musicals, and world music from many cultures and countries.

The elements of music are woven throughout the trimester: Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, Tone Color, and Expression. Students have the opportunity to play rhythm-percussion instruments, xylophones, keyboards, and recorders. Each class, grades K-5 use a wonderful music text called Making Music.

SLEs

‘Catholic Values, Self-Awareness, Responsible Citizen, Lifelong Learner’, these terms are a way of life at OLL, as well as in the music room! Lifelong learner is stressed in music, as music and performance memories are something we take with us for the rest of our lives.

Cross-Curricular Integration

Music can reach across curricular topics and studies, and when appropriate and possible, music class lessons may reflect topics being covered in other classes.

Technology

The music room has a large screen overhead projector system for use when studying a variety of musical topics. Online teaching aids such as YouTube, or articles found in Google are used when appropriate, or for looking at images of musical subjects on the big screen, and for watching Broadway musicals, documentaries, etc.
